Lego Birthday!

I realize that is has been a really long time since I last posted.

I have been so consumed with all the little things,

so blogging has suffered. sorry!

I has been a month already and my little boy has turned 6!!

He really wanted a Lego themed party.

My mom is the crafty one.

She made this banner that we hung in our dining room:

I made some chocolate legos out of a mold

I got from Bake it Pretty.

My mom used some duple blocks to make a

utensil holder.

My husband made some lego man templates for me

and I made the boys some t-shirts

with the transfer printer paper:

I also used mason jars filled with small lego bricks

at the kids party. I used them as balloon weights, forgot to take

Getting a Jump Start on the Holidays!

I know some of you may think its a tad too early to be thinking about the holidays, or maybe I am just plain crazy...but I think its better to be ahead of the game than fall hopelessly behind.

I love the holiday season and I love having more time to spend enjoying it rather than worrying if my cards are done, the gifts are bought and the menu is planned.

I love sending photo cards for the holidays and I love receiving them as well.

I am a loyal customer to Shutterfly.com. I have used them for my holiday cards, birthday notes and several photo books. I have never been disappointed and I love the wonderful selection they offer.

This year I was thrilled to see the new selections for holiday cards.

I think my favorite is the Merry Bright ZigZag.

I love the pop of colors and the youthfulness it lends. It truly represents our crazy, fun family!

It is also a pretty neutral holiday greeting which fits our family well. Not too holiday-ish.

I like that it is simple and to the point without being flashy.

I also love the “What Fun” card.

I am just loving the rainbow color over the black and white photo.

Now, I may decide to go a little more “formal” and I do think the “Tree all Aglow” is so pretty with a black and white photo.

{can you guess we will probably be using a black and white photo?}

I usually do one of just the boys, but I love the way this family photo looks.

Really, there are so many beautiful and fun cards to choose from. I am certain you can find one that suits your family’s personality.

Well, Hello October!!

My how time has flown!

I can't believe we are almost halfway through

October, which happens to be my favorite month!!

So, I thought I would share some things I am loving right now.

Popped into the mall quickly last night and was thrilled to find

these on sale:

We are big fans of Pottery Barn Kids.

I have several sets of their utensils and they last forever.

These were their Halloween collection, which happens to match

my everyday decor.

So at $3.99 they were coming home with me.

Wish they made an adult version!

Next stop Anthropologie!

My bangs have grown out and this unseasonably humid

weather is not helping my hair!

I splurged on these:

Although, not exactly all the same colors though.

Then I stocked up on these because they were on sale and

I happen to LOVE them:

They are yummy smelling and tasting.

JCrew had an extra 30% off sale items...

This "September Sweater" came home with me.

Not sure how I feel about it.

{think a diet is in order now!}

Scarf Swap!!

I totally goofed on taking a photo of what I sent Courtney, so I am

going to "borrow" her photo. {thanks Courtney}

I was so unsure about what to buy.

She and I have very similar tastes. We are very "basic" in our color

palettes, but she mentioned she liked a "pop" of color.

I saw this and thought it would be perfect for her:

I think I may have to go get one for myself}

And she was dead on perfect in her choice for me!!

So perfect and neutral.

I have worn it TWICE already!!!

School Days

We officially entered Kindergarten!

So far we love it!

Here are a few first day photos...

He was getting it confused with where daddy goes and was telling us

Now he knows he's at school.

We love his teacher, she is so sweet and kind.

Adjusting to all day school has not been easy, but he is a pro now.

He is lucky to have his older cousin at school...which has been a complete Godsend!!

Days away from school starting ( cringe) and feeling like I need a little
"pick me up" we stopped into Home Goods and I was thrilled to see they had some
Lilly items. Mostly stationery, but they had these:

I had to pick one up, since they were only $4.99 and the bag is really big.
I recently purchased one from a school fundraiser and paid twice that.

Things I am Loving Right Now

It certainly has not been the Summer I dreamed of.
Way more stress involved that I had expected.
We are all healthy, for the most part, and alive.
Right about now I wish I had one of those gigantic Valentine Heart boxes of
chocolate.
You know the ones that the used to raffle off in those old fashioned dime stores,
like Woolworth?
I miss Woolworth.
My grandmother actually won one of those gigantic heart boxes of candy.
We attacked it.
The chocolate was not that good, but it was an amazing sight to see.
I still ate the chocolate....because you can't ever let chocolate go to waste.

Anyhow, I am a total candy stress eater.
I would devour a ginormous box of chocolate right now.

So, instead I will list the things I am loving most this Summer...
maybe you will find something you like too!

Getting Ready For School

I can't believe it is almost August!
Time is flying by and school is just around the corner.
Casey will be going to Kindergarten!!
{still can't believe it}

I have always been crazy about back to school shopping.
I loved picking out my school supplies...still do!

We don't have a list yet, but I have been stocking up on
some of the great deals at Target.

I am obsessed with labeling everything
and I have been searching for some simple
labels for school supplies.

I saw this deal on another blog at Vistaprint.

{I think you can get it as cheap as $3.11, but it takes longer}

Where Oh Where Have We Been?

Summer is just flying by.
Camp started last week for Casey and he loves it.

He did however, come home Monday afternoon
with a pretty high fever, which
has turned into a viral thing.
{yay...missed 2 days of camp already}

Guess what?

He is going back tomorrow.
Two days of being home and he is bored out of his mind!!

So, I think its safe to say he is feeling much better.

It has been so hot here.
Ridiculously hot.
I am really a Fall person.

Anyhow, the kids came along to the supermarket today...
remember they were bored.

And I promised a reward for good behavior...

Can you guess what their reward was?

Thank goodness for those ridiculous car carts!

Here's my haul.
I paid $23, that includes tax.
I had a coupon for everything except the ice pops.
But they were my bribe, and they were on sale!

We have been getting ready for camp next week and

Here is a trip we took to Target this morning:

Cottonelle Wipes = $.89 each - on sale for $2.01 each - used target printable $1.25/2 & $1/2 manufacturer coupon.
Scotch tape - free with $1 printable manufacturer coupon

Sally Hansen nail polish - $.04 -used $1 off target printable and $1 off printable manufacturer coupon
Sharpie pens - $.52 - used $1 off target printable coupon

Not bad. I did it in two transactions because of the coupons.
The cashier was not very nice.
One of the Target coupons was not going and she insisted I did not have the item.
Even argued with me over it until I pulled it out of the bag and proved to her she did scan it.

Why must they be so nasty??
I am a legit couponer!

Anyhow, this is the exciting stuff going on over here.
The boys are water logged from swimming everyday at Grammy's.
The weather is forcasted to be yucky tomorrow, but the weekend is supposed to be nice!

-Oreo minis - $1 each - used Nabisco $1 off 2

Not bad for a quick trip!

Always check clearance and bring your coupons with you!

Don't forget to swipe your CVS card when you walk in. It printed out 3 coupons Dove bars, Twizzlers and Pringles.

Dust Bunnies

So, Mr. Coop has an obsession.
Its become a ritual around here...
He can't stop checking his toes!

It may seem a little gross...

But we can't help but get hysterical
at how through he is!

Seriously, he must have had lint once stuck in his
toe and now he is OBSESSED!
I mean at least 3 times a day he takes off his socks
and does a check.

I am laughing as I type this because he is so
serious about his toe checking.
Casey said, "Oh Mommy, he is just checking for Dust Bunnies"!
{hee hee hee}

This Weeks Target Deals

Took a quick trip to Target this morning with the kids.
It is always stressful shopping with them so
I have a very detailed list {keep it short}
and lots of snacks on hand.

{the little guy is the toughest to shop with -
he knows the drill and asks for the snacks
as soon as he is in the cart seat}

So here is my haul:

My grand total was $23.72 for all of this.
Please keep in mind I do live in NY my stores
do not have the great deals that other
parts of the country offer.

I did 2 separate transactions to maximize my savings.
I made sure I went early to the store as to avoid long lines.

{There were still eyes rolling behind me...coupon haters!!}

Anyhow, here is the break down:

-Starbucks Coffee - on sale $7.99 - used $1.50 printable coupon = $6.49
-Hefty ONEZIP Bags - $1.97 - used Target printable coupon for $1 off = $.97
-Salad - on sale for $2 a bag - used Target mailer coupon for $1 = $1

- 4 Ponds Facial Wipes - on sale for $4.49 each used 2 ($2) off 2 Ponds Target printable coupon; 2 ($1) off Ponds face product coupons & 2 ($1.50) Ponds face wipes {RP 6/26 insert}
total paid= $9.46 { $ 2.36 each! }

-2 Sally Hansen Nail Polish - on sale for $1.83 each - used 2 ($1) off Sally Hansen printable
Target coupon & 2 ($1) off Sally Hansen printable manufacturer coupon. = free +$.34 overage!

- 2 Hot Wheels Cars - $1.09 each - used 2 ($1) off Hot Wheels printable Target coupon= $.09 each. { I can handle that little treat for the boys! They were excited to get to pick out a toy}

-2 Johnson & Johnson Hand and Face Wipes (double value pack) - on clearance for $3.48 each. { note these were sitting right next to the individual packs marked $2.99 each} - used

2 ( $.50) off any Johnson & Johnson product { not sure which insert} = paid $5.96 (1.49 each!)

Always be on the look out for those read clearance stickers.
I ended up paying 50% off the store price using my coupons to take
the extra off the clearance price.
We go through wipes like crazy and these are small in size
and fit easily in my purse.

Don't forget, I did 2 transactions because many coupons are limited to
one transaction so be sure to read your coupons and check your store policy.

At The Car Wash

Homemade Play Dough

Trying to find things to
keep us busy until Summer Camp starts.

So, I promised the boys that every morning we would do
something crafty together.

Today was play dough.
They got to pick the color.

I like homemade play dough better than the store stuff.
It seems less messy, if that makes sense?
It is softer and less crumbly.

Anyhow here is the result:

I used this for color:

The boys seemed to have fun playing
with it.

Coop loved it.
I took out some tiny cookie cutters and
they had a blast.

Those tiny hands are growing way too fast!!

Here is the recipe I used:

Makes approx. 2.5 cups

1.5 cups of flour
3/4 cups salt
1/5 cups of water
1 TB vegetable oil
1 tsp cream of tarter
food coloring - I used the kind shown above

Mix all ingredients in saucepan. Once its all mixed add the food coloring.

Make sure you keep your stove on med. to low heat, it starts to clump
pretty quickly. Once you actually have something that looks like cookie dough take it off the heat. Lay out a cookie sheet and line it with wax paper. Scoop out dough onto wax paper and start to knead dough as soon as it is cool enough to handle {it should still be warm though}. Knead it to a nice smooth texture.
Make sure to keep it in an airtight container or zip lock bag.

New Favorite Book / Author

I just had to share with you one of my
new favorite authors,
Sarah Addison Allen.

So loving her, and all that she writes.

I read this book first:

It was a quick read.
Fun, light and sweet.
I really enjoyed it.
It was like reading a twist on a modern fairytale.
I knew what I was reading was a little "out there"
and yet I craved it.
Hard to explain, but my mom read it after me
and she enjoyed it as well.

I just started this one:

I just really like the author's writing style.
I am immediately engrossed.

Next on my list is her most recent one,
The Peach Keeper.

Coupon Obsession

Have you ever watched Extreme Couponing on TLC?

Love it!
Obsessed with it.
So, since we are tightening our belts
and trying to stretch a dollar any which way we can,
I tried my hand at coupons.

I have used them in the past, but not really used them!

So, I did a little research and it actually
worked out well.

Here is my recent trip to ShopRite:

All said and done my total was $18.90 {tax included}!

8 boxes of cereal {yes we eat a lot of cereal}
4 cans of shave gel
4 deoderants {free}
crystal light
Huggies Wipes
Night time diapers {most expensive}
ice pops

Not bad!

A couple of weeks ago ShopRite had a deal on these razors:

My store had them originally priced at $8.99 each.
They had a "mid-week" sale which brought them
down to $3.99 each.
I had many $4 coupons which made them all FREE!
Yay! I love free!

CVS has great deals too.
This was my deal from last week.
I paid $2 for all of this and earned $4 in EBCs!

All John Frieda hair products were on sale for $5.
CVS had a deal if you spent $10 on JF haircare you got back
$3 EBCs.
So I used three $5 John Frieda coupons I had gotten in the paper,
which made my hair stuff totally free.
I then bought the Bayer aspirin which was also offering
$1 EBCs. I can't remember exactly what it cost, but I did
have a $2 coupon.
My total came to roughly $2 because of tax.
Now I have the $4 to put toward toilet paper or paper towels
which there never seems to be a decent deal where I live.

So what's so preppy about this?

Saving money may also afford me some of my
much needed preppy purchases!

Cookie Monster Party

So busy as usual around here with school

ending, graduations, birthdays and camp starting.

Trying to catch my breathe and I swear I am not ignoring you all.

So little man turned two Memorial Day Weekend.

for you, which I am totally capable of.

So, I had my husband sketch some outlines and I came up with

I have been totally MIA,
with some valid reasons.

Big guy is getting ready for Kindergarten
{visiting his new school & placement testing}

Its been an emotional time for us.

We celebrated Mother's Day and had a
semi-quiet day, sans "scrapes" and tumbles.

But everyone is fine.

It really feels like Spring at long last.
The weather has been beautiful and
I am dying to wear some Spring/Summer
stuff.

Easter Cookie Decorating

This post is rather boring unless you are family.
My sister sent the boys
a cookie decorating kit from
The Popcorn Factory.

I love the thought behind it,
not so much the prep and decorate part.

The one thing I can not do
is cookies and royal icing.
I loathe royal icing.

Guess what this kit comes with?

A pound of royal icing.
Which I had to mix with my cheapo hand mixer,
it went everywhere.

But they ended up having a great time...

Yes, I let the baby use colored sugar...

Oh I am not in a good place today.
My head was totally ready for Spring.
I broke out my capris.

So, we have been totally MIA.

We put our place on the market last week
so we have been busy being crazy!

and take it down before the kids
touch any of the "good" towels!

Crazy, but I kind of enjoy it.
Is that sick?

Empty Dinner Table?

In a dinner rut?
Too many things to balance and dinner is the last
thing on your mind?

Welcome to my world!

I am always searching for the quickest
way to feed the crowd, but still
maintain quality ingredients, taste and wholesome goodness.

Look no more.

The Scotto Family, who own and operate
Fresco by Scotto restaurant,
embarked on a new journey with their business;
A collaboration with Schwan's Home Delivery where seven of their signature dishes are available for frozen home delivery nationwide.

This partnership has enabled them to expand their business and recognizability across the country,
allowing those who don't live in NYC to
experience the Scotto's food
at their own dinner tables.

I was super lucky to try out this
wonderful service.

My two choices were promptly delivered.
They were packaged with full instructions.
Really easy to follow and all I had to
do was put in the oven {while still frozen}
or into the microwave.

I decided to follow conventional oven directions
since the portions are fairly large and
I really would rather a meal come
from the oven, even if I didn't make it myself!

I decided to try the Lasagna with Meatball sauce
and the Penne Gratin.

First, I must say the process couldn't be easier.
Since everything is self-contained in its own tray
there is no mess to clean up.

Even though entrees are frozen I do not believe
it took more than 45 minutes to cook.
Definitely a time saver.

The Lasagna with Meatball Sauce
was really generous in size.
More than enough to feed my family of 4 and
we had leftovers.

It had a really nice flavor.
Not overly tomato or spicy, it was mild with a bit of
sweetness to it.
The little meatballs gave it a
nice taste and the ricotta gave it a
nice creamy texture.
Something different from the
usual meat sauce.
We liked it.
The baby loved the little meatballs.

The Penne Gratin was yummy too.

This was a two step process, but again nothing to it.
Cook it for 20 minutes, add in the little package of
Parmesan, mix and cook another 20 minutes.

I was a little worried that this would be
overly cheesy, but it was not.
It had a really nice texture, but really mild flavor.
It was surprisingly light, yet creamy.
The pieces of prosciutto were a nice addition.
It was like an "adult" version of Mac and Cheese.
I liked it a lot.
I believe it states this serves 2,
it was definitely more than enough for my husband and I.
Since it was sort of a rich dish I
decided to have a smaller portion
and serve it with a salad.
Again, the portions are generous.

Overall, I have to say that my experience was
wonderful.
I loved the idea of ordering something
substantial and having it waiting in the freezer for me.

I would rate it as take out with a plus.
No waiting for the delivery and no tip necessary!
I definitely would recommend their service
and am eager to try out some other dishes as well!

this weekend!
Cleaning and clearing out.
Getting ready for our next big venture in life.

While my husband and big guy are at Home Depot,
I am hanging out with this guy:

He definitely has been trained for the camera.
As soon as he sees it come out
he shouts, "Cheese".

Can't seem to loose that binky yet!

Thank you to all of your kind comments about
my grandmother.
I was truly touched.
She was a special lady and she is greatly missed.

Well, we are trying to make the most of the weekend.

A Rose...

certainly would not be her.

My Rose, my grandmother, passed away
on Tuesday.

We have been so sad and lost in our
wonderful memories of her.

It is almost hard to come back to
a reality at this moment in time.

My grandmother lived with us from
when I was 6.

My mom's house is quiet.
empty without her presence.

She was 84.

She was lots of fun.
Tons of personality.
Someone who always made you laugh.

I miss her.

She was a master at knitting
and crocheting.
We have endless blankets and
scarves.
It was how she passed the time.
Yesterday was her burial.
My sister gave the most beautiful eulogy.

In it she made mention of how
my grandmother's blankets
would continue to wrap us
in her warmth and love.

I put my little one to bed
with his favorite blanket.
One that she made him
when he was born.

I felt so sad in that instant.
In the dark room I
searched for another
blanket she had made.
I slept with one last night
so I could be wrapped in her love
as well.

Thrifty Tuesday....Target Style!

I love Target.

Loooooooove Target!
I swear you can find the best buys there, if you look
and wait.

I have this Shabby Chic for Target shower curtain:

I think its on-line for $29.
I paid $19 in the store.
Mind you, it was not labeled "sale", I actually
scanned it and the price came up sale.

FYI, if there is something you love or have your eye on,
periodically scan it to see if it was marked down.
Target does not list everything in their weekly flyer.

That is exactly what happened when I saw these:

It is kind of hard to tell, but these are white on white
ruffled towels.
I think the hand towels were $9.99 each.

I am sorry but with boys in the house
these are too expensive for my taste.

I scanned them last week and I was surprised that
they went down to $6.98.

Still the bargain hunter at heart, I let them stay.

Yesterday I headed over for my weekly stock up
and they were in the clearance isle.
They were marked down to $2.48.

Yes, I took every last one.
Well, I let my BFF buy one!

So they will go out only when company comes.

Little boys are really messy in the bathroom,
just in case you didn't know that.

But I also noticed some newer items to the
Shabby Chic line:

Seriously way cuter in person.
They look like something straight out of
Rachel Ashwell's store
even reminded my on Anthro.

Price point is not bad at all,

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is my lego heart.
As a mom of boys, this is about as
"valentiney" as we get.
CJ says, "Hearts are for girls".

I do love hearts,and on some days I am considered a girl...
so we made this together
last week.
As most of our lego creations, it lasted about an hour.
Oh well, that's why I snapped a picture.

I can not believe its been so long since I posted!!
I feel like I need to go to confession its been that long!

In my defense,
a lot has happened.

We all took turns at the stomach flu.

CJ had it the worst.
Poor kid had it for 7 days!

We suspect Coop may be starting with it.
{God help us}

We have had killer snow storms.

I do not believe we have had a full week of school yet.
While it is nice to be comfy and cozy in doors
for a day...
once a week it starts to get old.

I am so ready for Spring!!

Keeping Cozy During This Insane Winter!!

Beside donning my
yoga pants, college sweatshirt
and super comfy socks
{my "uniform" for the snow days}
I have had a little time
to indulge in one of my
favorite past times....
movies.

(This is only possible during nap time
or if another adult is present)

I was able to finally watch this:

I loved it.
Julia is and will always be a favorite.
I will watch anything she is in.
This movie made me laugh, smile and cry.
Perfect for a cold winter's day.

Then I caught this on Saturday night:

I really liked it.
Totally kept my interest and
even I was not expecting the ending.
{I am a romantic}

Ok, so forgive me for the following...
Please do not judge, I am only
human.

A very curious one at that.

I can not help myself, I am addicted to watching
train wrecks:

I know.
It actually makes me feel good about
my decision to get married and have children.
Glad I had a normal upbringing.
Nothing says birth control better than
Teen Mom 2.
Again, I do not know why I continue
to watch this show.
Half the time my heart is in my throat
and I feel really bad for these babies
{and mamas too}.

So the next one is not a train wreck

Hi everyone!
Still here!!
Hanging in and waiting for round three of the
snow to hit us.

Thought I would pop in and do a fun post.
I know I love reading about
things that people
love using...
thought I would share some of my favorite things....

My lips get so dry this time of year
so I am a hoarder of lip balms.
This is one of my recent faves:

I haven't used softlips since my
teen years, but this new flavor
is super yum!

I did a review on these awesome hair ties
a while ago:

I had to buy a neutral set.
I love them!
They are the only hair band that does not
leave a bend in my hair!

Fingerless gloves:

The pair I just bought were
a $1 in the target bins.
I must admit I feel a little
bit "Madonna" with them
on...I love them.

I broke my Laura Mercier
bronzer, which I was scraping
the bottom of the pan...

Since I have yet to make it to the
department store I thought I would try
Target for a quick filler.
This did not disappoint.
For $4.29 I think this was a
super smart buy.

Ok, the best part about
Valentine's Day:

Sorry, the peanut butter hearts are
my weakness!

Obsessed with this body wash:

It smells like yummy fresh
oranges.
It reminds me of creamsicles!
Yum!

Sweet tooth?

Yeah!

I have always loved
red licorice. The wheels
are my fave!

I picked this lovely
shade of deep purple up the other day.
Love it.
Reminds me of "wicked", but more purple!

Happy New Year!

I realize I am so late, but its been nuts!

I have been consumed with getting
my big guy registered for Kindergarten!

I am so new to this. I feel like a fish out of water.
I'm nervous and scared.
I swear you'd think I was going to school.

Anyhow, the only resolution I am
keeping to is this journal:

It is awesome.
I used to be a journal writer, until I had kids.
This is a 5-year journal and it asks
a question each day.
Simple enough.
So far I have done it all 5 days!

I got it on Amazon.

So, most of my time has been
spent watching these two goof around:

I believe these pictures were taken the day after
Christmas, they are wearing their
matching Christmas Jammies.
Probably the last time they
will have matching ones!
{I got the jammies at Target last year}

Speaking of Target,
I have been hitting up every one in my area.
They have the best after Christmas sales.

I got lots of ornaments but my
"treasure" {my code word for super awesome find}

well here is my treasure:

I love mercury glass.
These were a steal.
The candle sticks were $3 each.
and the hobnail votives
were $.74 each!

I did score some other awesome items
at Pottery Barn too,

Now, on to Valentines day!

Praying for a peaceful sleep tonight and a healthier Christmas!!

My poor little guys are still super excited about Santa despite feeling yucky!

Christmas Vacation It's Finally Here!

So we are officially on vacation...
sort of.
I finished work last week and CJ
had his little Christmas sing-a-long
yesterday
{adorable, I will upload the pictures to show}.

So what are we to do with our time?

How about some empty boxes from our
Christmas orders:

Lots of fun...

This little guy is so sick:

I don't know about you, but our guys are
coughing up a storm.
Night time is a challenge and the doctor
says we have to wait it out,
but keep an eye on the cough!
I got news for you, it is progressively
getting worse, but there is nothing I can do.

I feel so bad.

So to keep these guys busy I am trying anything.

Thank God for Netflix and the Instant Que!
We watch it through the xbox and
all of the national geo dinosaur docs,
their favorite cartoons...its been a lifesaver.

Oh, and packing paper too:

You know when you buy something breakable
at homegoods or anthro (cough)...
I save it and lay it out on the coffee table
and let them go nuts.
{my coffee table has a plexi-glass plate over it-
the best thing I ever did when we bought
our furniture. It totally protects it from everything!}

My new favorite ornaments:

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
Counting down the days 'til
Christmas vacation!!

Almost done with my
xmas shopping,
I swear it sucks the life out of
me every year.

We had a really rainy, nasty Sunday
so I took
the big guy to see
"Tangled".

I loved it!
I laughed out loud.
Felt like a little girl again.
It was magical.

My five year old?

Not so much.

He said it was
"Too girly".

He asked me a few times to
leave.

I just kept feeding him
candy and popcorn
and shooshing him!

I loved it.
Since we did a matinee it only cost me
$12 for the both of us.
plus the $6.25 for the popcorn, juice and candy.

Not bad for a movie date,
even if my date
was unimpressed.

Starting on the Holidays a little late...

Forgive me for the lack of
posting!!
I had no idea that two little
guys could keep me
so incredibly busy!!!

I have yet to put up a tree,
which I think is serious procrastination
on my part...
Coop is in to EVERYTHING!!!

I mean it too.

He does everything the other didn't.
Boys!
He keeps me on my toes.

So I really have little to no
time left to craft.
Poor me, right?

A few weeks ago I asked my mom and my sister kiki
to try out a craft with me.

Here is mine:

In case you can't tell
its a coffee filter wreath.
I used the natural color filters.
I love the way it turned out.
I have been meaning to hang it, but it still
sits on the shelf.
I also made some paper chains with
my older son last week.
We used old sheet music.
It was fun and functional.
It goes with mommy's color scheme.
Boring for him, but totally eye pleasing to me.
I am not one for lots of color around the house.
So when I have some time I will take a few more photos
of our decorations.

The Bestest Birthday Ever!!

So, today is my Birthday.
I am not sure who was more excited, me or the kids?

I am a person who really loves
their Birthday.
Age is a number,
and I really mean that.
I forget how old I am
most of the time and
have to ask my husband!

So, I woke up to this:

Then the oldest one presented me with this:

He has this thing about "girl" things.
"Girl" toys and pink and purple.
He says they are all "girl" things.
And even though I am a mommy, I am a
girl. So I must love Rapunzel.
{well, he is right about that!}

The inside of his card:

My husband took him to buy me a present.
My husband said he originally picked out
the $100 Rapunzel tower.
{Oh he is sooooo good to his mamma!)
But they agreed on this:

He's got great taste!
I love combing her super long hair, which
has already gotten tangled!

I also had to share these gifts with you.
My mother took him to my favorite store (Anthropologie),
which CJ calls "The Mama Store".

Here is what he picked out:

I love silver and glitter!!
My mom said she got such a kick out of
him because he was saying things like,
"Oh she will LOVE this"!
Then he stumbled upon this
jewelry box:

He said mommy, "needs this"!
So true.

Then my mom suggested they put some things inside:

The necklace he told me was not his idea.
He said, "Grammy picked that out".
But the socks, he said that they would be
my favorite.
He said to me, "Don't you love them"?
"They have pink bows, just like you like"!

True.
I love them!

What I love is that he picked it all out for me.
This was the first year he really wanted
to be involved in the gift giving,
which I thought was so adorable.

Oh, yes I did have to wear a crown as well,
being a lover of all things princess:

I got my flu shot today.

I am super sore.

I mean painfully sore.

I think I tense up.

Lord, I feel like its being crammed down my throat!!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the season, but
my radio station has
already changed over to Christmas songs!!

We didn't even get to enjoy
our Turkey dinner!!
I feel bad for those Pilgrims!!
I am remembering you in my heart, while singing
along to my Christmas songs in the car!

On that note, this came in the mail the other day:

And she was like, "Really"?

Yup, for years.

Like as long as my mom has bought Mary Kay and yes,
I love it and am a loyal fan.

I will ever use.
It is magic.
It is amazing.
I love it and my mom gives it to us

Well, we really don't have stockings anymore,

We are counting our blessings.

Little Hoot and Optimus Prime!

We survived Halloween!

My kids really don't enjoy this
holiday...they would
rather eat the candy than work for it!

CJ had an adorable little Halloween
parade at school and a sing-a-long
which went really well.
He stayed dressed and sang his little songs.

I got lots of video.
Here he is in his "Optimus Prime" costume:

He has loved Transformers for years.
This costume has gotten so much wear
already, he has been wearing it since
Grammy brought it home in early September!

Ok, you have to forgive

These past few days have been
hellish.

You see this little guy?

Yeah, he is not happy.
He has been running a fever off and on
for about 4 days.

Crabby.
Cranky.

And not sleeping!
{me either!}

So he walks around with this face on:

He is still so stinkin' cute.
Even in his mummy pjs {thanks Aunt Kiki}.
I am super tired and have a cranky kid
strapped to my ankles, literally.

We think some teeth are coming in
because when we ask him
where his "boo boo" is
he puts his finger in his mouth.
Poor baby.

So this is why I have been MIA.

Fall Decorating and Some Thrifty Finds

I love the Fall.

Love everything about it...

Love decorating for it as well.

I am pretty picky about my decor.

I like themes.

I like sticking to color tones and
making them work all year round.

Thank goodness mercury glass is still
popular, because its my one love.

And I don't care if it ever goes out of style...
I will love it even more!

I got giddy when I saw these babies in Homegoods:

Oh, aren't they sweet?

How could you resist that face?

I have a new found love for owls.

I only found one in the brown
so he sits up top
and watches over us.

I also stopped by the thrift shop and
I picked up some fall decorating stuff.
Mostly paper goods.
{my 4 year old loves to decorate the
house for Halloween}

I got some vintage fun stuff
and this guy was beckoning to me:

He reminded me of second grade.
I swear my teacher had the same one hanging
in our classroom.
So, for $.05
he came home with me.

And this pink glass little vase:

For a $1?
How could I leave it behind?
I believe she was once a sugar bowl with a lid.
She sits on my dresser holding my rings for now.

Mama's Got A Brand New Bag!

Who doesn't love a new bag to tote?

I am a hoarder when it comes to bags.
They basically have to be tattered and torn
for me to even consider parting with them.

Tradition

Perfect Day.

Its our tradition.

The one thing we do every year...

Pack everyone up and head up
to Fishkill Farms in Dutchess County, NY.

Oh the smell of the fresh baked doughnuts
and the BBQ grill in the
cool crisp air.

I love the fall.

The trees were full...

The kids were excited...

Someone was loving the tasting part...

I swear we lost count.
He tried every kind
and loved every minute of it!

CJ was super eager to fill up
our sack...

Try to load 20 pounds of apples into
the fridge when you get home!

little hands...

Oh, we can't forget the hens...

{Coop shamelessly harassing the ladies}
I had to pull him away!

Oh the boys were tired.
Can you tell from this pic?

I know, enough with the matching shirts!
My husband is sick of it, but as long as I can find
matching sizes I will buy them with taste!
{BTW, walmart - $3.50 a piece}

Against the boys request, I opted for
a white pumpkin...

And the bubble gourds
were too cool to pass up...

But what I will remember most of this day...

my precious little boys.

New school year always
starts off with a bang...

cold and coughs ran their course
this past week and weekend.

Not much going on here, but
I did get to Target
to check out some of the
John Derian
line.

Most of it was cleaned out.

I walked away with a few tumblers:

Not too girly in a house full of boys!

I really wanted these:

No such luck.

Bummer.

I will press on and continue to search
or just order them online.

Well, we will be finding things to do
indoors for the next couple of
days since we are plagued with rain!

Olivia! Plush and Playset Review!!

We were all very excited about a package
that came last week!

If you have ever watched Nick Jr. than
you should be familiar with
Olivia!

Spin Master has taken Olivia's
bold personality and extraordinary imagination

We were lucky to receive an

Since we watch Nick Jr. often,

We had so much fun setting up her room, which CJ

Back To School Bathroom Redo

I am definitely a person
who likes change.

Maybe too much.

When I get bored,

when the season changes,

when my mood changes...

you can usually find me
with paint brush in hand

or rearranging furniture.

So when I saw this
absolutely awesome shower curtain

I HAD to revamp the boys bathroom!!

It was just too perfect.

We gave the bathroom a
"school inspired" theme.

Can someone please tell me
just why it is I am
obsessed with tv?

I mean, really...

I am almost ashamed for admitting this to

feel I am not alone.

I am just watching the end of
True Blood
{so sad this season is over}

I had watched several reruns of this earlier today:

{ TLC}

Can I just tell you that this show
makes me feel so anxious!
Yet I continue to watch it.
I am a neat freak.
I hate clutter and I feel like
after watching this show
I should become one of those
"professional organizers".
I secretly love it when they announce these
people and their title.
Maybe I can be one of those people?

Except I have no patience.
I would just grab a bag and start throwing
things out.

Oh please, like you haven't watched?
I can not help myself.
I love the drama.

Ok, you may not like me for this one.
Every season I say,
"I am not going to watch a new show
about housewives"

Welcome Saturday! It's Been A Long Week!!

I don't know about you,
but this week felt like an
eternity!!

I started back to work, part-time
as a pre-school teacher, which I love.

My eldest started his new pre-school,
which was challenging for him and me.

Needless to say,
WE SURVIVED!!

It is a huge weight lifted and
everyone is feeling
much lighter today!

I don't know about you, but I truly
stress out for the first day of school.

We usually have tears and I always feel
so guilty.
Its like I'm holding my breath for those
3 hours of school
praying he is fine.

Which he always is.

Anyhoo,
Cooper is hanging with his Grammy
while Casey and I are at school.

My mom finally retired and has
my crazy 15 month old to chase after.

We got a new video camera
so I promise to post some Coop and Casey
dancing videos.

It is one of my new favorite past-times,
putting on different genres
of music and watching my kids
dance!

Well, that is where I have been this week.
Forgive me for neglecting you all.

I have some DIY projects I have completed.
Super easy ones.

Labor Day Is Around The Corner!

I don't know about you, but it is still
crazy hot in the north east!!

I am living on smoothies in the morning to
start my day off.

Luckily, I am reviewing a new cookbook
for kids and I'd love to share some of the
yummy smoothie recipes with you!!

They are from the new book,
YOU CAN COOK
A Step-By-Step Cookbook For Kids
By Annabel Karmel

I just started started flipping through it
and so far I love it!

Here are some smoothie recipes,
I tried the Strawberry one this morning....
So yummy and super easy.

If you have a picky eater, like I do,
they can be a lifesaver!

Here goes:

Blackberry and Blueberry Smoothie-
1/2 Cup blackberries
1/2 Cup sliced strawberries
1/2 Cup blueberries
1/4 Banana
1/4 Cup blueberry yogurt
2 Tsp honey

Put the berries and banana in a blender with the yogurt and honey. Blend until all the lumps have gone and it's a pretty deep purple color.

Banana Caramel Smoothie-
2 1/2 Tbsp caramel sauce
1/2 Cup milk
1 Large banana
1/2 Greek yogurt

Put 1 tsp of the caramel into a small bowl and mix with 1 tsp of the milk. Set aside while you make the smoothie.
Put the remaining caramel, banana, and yogurt in a blender and blend it all together. Add the rest of the milk and blend again. Drizzle over the thinned caramel before serving.

Double Strawberry Smoothie-
(Pictured Above)

1 Cup sliced strawberries
1/4 Banana
1/3 Cup strawberry yogurt
2 Tsp honey

Put the strawberries, banana, yogurt, and honey in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. If you have any strawberries left, just dip them in and eat them!

Preserving your Flea Market Finds - A DIY For Chipped Paint!

I love the look of old
chipped paint.
I see pieces.
Fall in love with their aged look, bring them home
only to be disappointed and have to refinish them.

Out with my girlfriend Friday I fell in love
with an old paint chipped chair.

It was the perfect color.
Something I knew I could never replicate.

I had to have it and figure out how to
preserve its flawed beauty.

I paid for it, $15.

As I picked up my treasure the
paint was just flaking off.

Here it sits outside because it was not
safe to have in the house around the kids.

A closer look...

Isn't it lovely?
I had to remove the cane center of the chair
because it had a huge hole in it.
I had thought about replacing the seat with a burlap
cushion in the meantime, but I really wanted
to just stop the chair from
flaking any further.

I took a little trip to Home Depot and
I asked the "Paint Guru" what he
suggested.

Polyurethane!

I bought a can of this:
And a cheap throw away paint brush.
Make sure you wear gloves.
This stuff is sticky and I changed gloves with each application.
I chose a satin gloss, but it comes in other finishes.
It was about $10 a can. I went with a large can because there was no
in between size.
It was suggested that I use 3-4 coats.
I ended up painting 5 just in case.

Painting it on rather than spraying it was suggested.
If you prefer spray, you will need approximately
7-8 coats.

Here is my end result:

The polyurethane dried super fast.
It had an odor, so you must use it in a very well
ventilated area, I would only suggest it
outside on a flat surface.

Like I mentioned before it is sticky and it
is messy, so make sure
you lay down plenty of paper and wear gloves.

I decided I did not want to replace the seat
at this time.
I have lots of books and magazines
and I thought the chair would
lend itself as the
perfect "make shift" book shelf.

The surface is a bit shiny, not too shiny
but it gave the paint a clear
coating, it acts like a seal.

This piece is reserved for my bedroom,
my personal space.

Although I felt it was safe enough to bring into
my home, I would not feel safe leaving it out with
the kids. They are still too small and
curious.

Overall, I am super pleased with the result.

I love my chipped chair.
Even my husband, who puts up with
all my crazy shabby purchases
is loving this piece.

I searched all over the Internet looking for a DIY
specifically about preserving chipped paint
and I found nothing so I hope this helps
someone else.

Moon Dough Review

The Magical Molding Dough!!

Have you had a chance to try this stuff?

This sweet package arrived in the nick of time.

When camp came to an end we
were craving something fun to do.

This Moon Dough Barnyard was just the thing to do on a hot Summer day.

We brought it into the backyard at Grammy's and laid out the little
themed play mat.

CJ was very eager to get started.
{I have pictures, but I can't figure out how to get them off my phone!}

So you take the moon dough and you put it in the hole at the top of the barn.
{I suggest really packing the dough in so that you can see the definition in the animals}
Then you push the crank twice and out pops
a perfectly formed animal!

I have to say it was super cool.
We loved taking turns to see what would come out next.
I will say that the dough was slightly messy, so I suggest
keeping it away from your rugs.
It has a consistency of power when it is not formed.
It was perfect for outside.
It also comes with two molds to make a fence and bales of hay.
They were a little tricky to pop out.
Here are some things you should know about Moon Dough:

It is soft and marshmallow-like
cleans up easily
never dries out, so you can use it again and again
It is hypo-allergenic and wheat-free

Where Have We Been??

Oh boy this week has been a blur!

We have been getting ourselves prepared for school.
Since I am going back to work, very part-time
I had to get my stuff in gear too.

Some play dates and rainy days...
here we are the end of yet another week
closer to September.

I have to secretly admit that I am not
happy about school starting (well, not totally)
but I am really ready for Fall.

I miss my sweaters.
I miss my flats.

I miss the cool crisp Fall air.

So, sorry for the lack of posts
this week...shame on me!

Well, Coop is walking and running everywhere.
He loves to eat and dance.
I will have to post a video.
CJ is reluctant about starting school,
found a new love of Shirley temples {the drink}...
a bribe we occasionally use to get him to eat.
And has been talking and singing in his sleep.
{scary as all hell!!}

challenge.

It is scary that this is all
I have been doing lately.

Have you all started?

Sales are pretty good, some really good
deals to be had.

Gap had a great one this weekend and
I picked these up:

This cardigan is so soft.
Couldn't beat the price either
it was on sale and then
another 40% off with my coupon!

These little city flats I could not
resist:

Really comfy and super cute.
They fold up and fit in
the little pouch!

Anthropologie is having great
sales too.

I ordered this online
since the store was out of my size.

Oh, the Lilly sale too!

I called to check just in case.

Toys are seldom dull

Always looking for adventure, we were
thrilled to have the
opportunity to try out this
awesome scooter:

Allow me to introduce the
"Shox Scooter" by Shred Sled.

Shred Sled is a super company which
specializes in extreme sports
products for kids!

It is the first-ever active
shock absorber scooter that
allows riders to
perform higher,faster,
more awesome tricks!

Shox Scooter is a great match
for our little guy who is
not quite ready for a
skate board, but
is looking for a little
more of a challenge from
a scooter.

It is a perfect compromise.
My little guy is on the small side,
so we found the scooter really
adaptable.
The recommended age is 5+ so this
is definitely something that will grow with him.

We also like that the deck had a rough grip
surface which provided CJ
with excellent foot control and traction.

The handles are comfortable
and cushioned and totally height
adjustable.

Overall it is light weight and easy
to transport - it folds in half.

A definite winner in our home!

The other night my
mother-in-law stopped by with

It is my husband's grandmother's.
My MIL remembers her purchasing
it 40 some odd years ago
at an antique shop.

Well, she knows, just as you do
that my heart goes pitter pat
for anything old
and silver.

The details are so lovely.

The bottles are simply
beautiful.
I love just looking at it
so it is sitting in the middle
of my dining room table.

I think I will pick some
small flowers
and use
the bottles to hold them
as a center piece in the
mean time.
I like my pieces to
have full function and
purpose if they are
going to be out for display.

Oh well, its time to get the
day started.
Looks like a doctor visit
may be in order for the big guy...
seems our summer of swimming may have
finally wreaked havoc on his
poor little ears.

Closing in on summer

I hate to rush my summer.

But I can't help but feel
it is coming to an end all
too fast.

I just ordered this the other day:

Back to work, well part time,
for this mama.

Yeah, I needed a little
Lilly pick-me-up...

and some organization as well.

It doesn't hurt that its
pretty.

Don't get me started on fall clothing
and close-toed shoes.

I am never ready to give up
my McKims or my flip flops.

Maybe I need to move south!

Lilly needs to make some cool
snow boots!!

Anyhow, it has been hot
her in the northeast.

crazy hot.

Hope it breaks a little
for this weekend.

New Beauty Finds

I love trying out new beauty products.

I feel like a kid in a candy shop when its
something I really love.

So I have two things to share today and
this is my new favorite item:

The "SwirliDo" hair ties are
amazing!!

Seriously, I was a little skeptical,
but they did not disappoint.

So these little stretchy things
actually work.
They hold tight and they don not leave
that pony tail marks at all.

I have been using them religiously
for 2 weeks and I am in love!!

So much so I am going to get this set:

The other product I tried is also by the

The "Twist-n-roll Tweezers".

I am told it is similar to
threading, but I have never had that done.

I do tweeze so I thought I would
definitely try this out.

Ok, I was nervous at first.
It really is so easy to use.
You just bend and twist your thumbs in
and it rolls.
It works.
Really, it also pinched...
but not as bad as tweezing.
It is not something you would
use on your eyebrows, but
any other unwanted facial hair for sure.

Easy and fast once you get the hang of it.

I thought it was neat and something different.

Oh, it didn't leave any red marks either.

Bummed, Bad Mood, Frustrated...

I am feeling every emotion
under the sun right now.

I feel like I've been
kicked in the gut.

I know it may not be a big deal
to you,
or any one else.

But my kids,
are my life.

Anything that upsets them,
endangers them or
just plain makes them cry brings
on the mama lion in me,
{or brings me to my knees depending on the day}

So the doctor visit was a disaster,
to put it mildly.

Casey was restless
{can't blame him}

Coop had a shot and a
lead and iron test.

{OUCH!}

Let's just say the nurse, Coop and I
were covered in blood.

{well, not completely covered....
but he slapped the vial out of her hand
and it went all over her arms and shirt,
my arms and his little body}

{sigh}

And the doctor did not like Coops
vitals.

He didn't grow much at all.

He gained really nothing.

So we are not happy campers.

I feel like a deflated balloon.

I always look forward to seeing how
he has progressed.

But her words killed me.

"He's so tiny"

What the heck does that mean?

I'm little.
My husband is no giant.

People should expect us to have
"smallish" children.

It kills me.

There is nothing I can do but continue
to fatten him up.

Please don't take this the wrong way,
I LOVE my pediatrician.
I really do.

She is awesome.

{so to my family and friends reading this,
please do not call me and bash my doctor}

So, I will return next month
for a weight check.
If things continue the way they are
she will run the gamut on him.

So, even though things may be totally fine,
I feel so awful.

Its hard to explain, but as a mom
you are responsible for everything when it
comes to your kids.

Whether or not it is beyond your control,
you feel guilty about it.

So, we headed straight to the supermarket to
buy some "good" fats for Coop.

He hated the flaxseed added to his yogurt.
We are going to eat lots of avocado
and olive oil on our food tonight.

Any food suggestions welcomed.

A Little Seat For Coop

I was trying to figure out
an appropriate title for this post.

I recently repainted this little stool:

Somehow "stool" and "redo" and boy
were not working for me.

Anyhow, I forgot the before picture
of the stool.
I had purchased it years ago at
homegoods or marshalls
for pennies and it was painted
red with a flag on it.

It just wasn't working for me.
I literally had it in the donate pile
and something told me
to repaint it.
{That's what I do when I am bored with
something}

We still had some paint samples from Behr
left over from painting the
baby's room... yes a year ago.

Here is the baby, I mean Coop:

He has no idea we are about to go to
the doctor for a lead test and some
shots! Yikes!!

Anyhow, after I painted and sealed the
little stool...

It was claimed by Coop.

He pulls it out to every room...

To sit upon.

His very own little seat!

Ironically, this was not my
intention, but
how can you say no to that little
face!!

Summer Reading

I am a little slow with my reading this Summer.

I started out with this:

I read all the Stephanie Meyer Twilight books and this

was a super quick read.

I had to read it before I saw

'Eclipse'.

Nothing like a little

"light" fiction to ease you

into Summer.

Then I recently finished this:

Oh I can not say enough about this one.

LOVED it!!

I am so looking forward to anything Kathryn Stockett

writes in the future.

Such a great read.

Heavy, but wonderful.

Then I moved right on to this:

I am a little more than halfway through and

I can not put this book

down.

I love it.

Its heavy, heart wrenching, beautiful and every

emotion under the sun.

I highly recommend it.

I hope the rest of the book does not disappoint.

So I am thinking my next read with be this:

I have had a few people tell me this was a great read.

It is the first of the trilogy and I saw them all

at Costco this week.

Has anyone read it?
